Why LinkedIn ads disappoint

LinkedIn clicks cost more. So mistakes cost more too.

On LinkedIn you pay more for each click than on most platforms, so a weak setup gets expensive fast. These are the six things we find most often.

1Audience too wide

"All managers in India" isn't a target, it's a crowd. Most of them will never buy from you, and you pay for each click.

2Asking for a meeting too soon

A stranger scrolling LinkedIn isn't ready to book a call. A "Contact us" ad to people who have never heard of you rarely works.

3Leads come in, nobody follows up

B2B buyers compare a few vendors. If the form lead waits three days for a reply, the buyer has already talked to someone else.

4Budget too small to learn anything

A tiny daily budget gives a handful of clicks a month. That's too little to know what's working, so nothing gets better.

5No way to see which leads became deals

Without tracking, you only know how many forms were filled. You can't tell which ads brought buyers and which brought time-wasters.

6Same ad for months

A small audience sees the same ad again and again. Interest drops, the cost per lead creeps up, and nobody notices.

Is LinkedIn right for you?

LinkedIn is expensive. Here's when it's worth it, and when it isn't.

We'd rather tell you now than after you've spent a month's budget.

Worth trying when

  • You sell to businesses, not to the general public
  • One customer is worth a lot to you (think ₹1 lakh or more)
  • You can name the job titles or companies you want to reach
  • Someone can follow up on leads the same day
  • You can spend enough to learn, not just ₹500 a day

Probably skip it when

  • You sell low-priced items to ordinary shoppers
  • Your customers are local and found through Google or Instagram
  • One sale is worth only a few thousand rupees
  • Your budget is very small. Google Ads often gives more for the money
  • Nobody can reply to enquiries quickly

Many B2B businesses use LinkedIn to reach the right people and Google Ads to catch those who then search for them. We'll tell you honestly which to start with.

A quick sanity check

What could a LinkedIn budget bring in?

LinkedIn has no fixed rate card, so costs vary a lot. Put in your own numbers to see if the sums can work for your business. The defaults are only a starting point.

Try your numbers

Types of LinkedIn ads

Six kinds of LinkedIn ads. Here's what each one does.

You don't need all six. Tap one to see what people see, who it suits and when to skip it.

LinkedIn calls it: Sponsored Content

Image, carousel and video ads

Posts that look like normal LinkedIn posts, shown in the feed to the people you choose. A single image, a swipeable carousel or a short video.

Best first choice

Works well when

  • You have a clear offer for one type of buyer
  • You can show proof, a result or a short story
  • You want to send people to a landing page
You payPer click or per 1,000 views
SpeedA few weeks to judge
BudgetMedium

Our advice: Talk to one type of buyer per ad. An ad for "everyone in business" works for nobody.

LinkedIn calls it: Lead Gen Forms

Lead Gen Forms

A short form inside the ad. Name, company and job title are filled in from the person's profile, so they only tap once to send it.

Works well when

  • You want leads without sending people to a website
  • Your offer is a guide, a webinar or a demo
  • You can reply to leads the same day
You payPer click or per 1,000 views, on the ad that carries the form

Our advice: Easy forms bring more leads, but some are casual. We add one question to filter them, and your quick reply matters more than the ad.

LinkedIn calls it: Message and Conversation ads

Message and Conversation ads

Ads sent as a message to a person's LinkedIn inbox. A Conversation ad lets them choose their next step, like a short menu.

For named people

Our advice: An inbox is personal. A pushy message gets ignored or reported. A useful one gets a reply.

LinkedIn calls it: Document ads

Our advice: A useful document earns trust. A brochure with a new cover does not. We help you pick what to share.

LinkedIn calls it: Thought Leader ads

Thought Leader ads

A post from a real person at your company, promoted to your chosen audience. It reads like advice, not an ad.

  • You sell on trust and know-how

Our advice: The person whose post you promote must agree to it. It works best when the post is something they would have written anyway.

LinkedIn calls it: Text and Dynamic ads

Not sure which ad type fits you?

Tell us who you sell to and we'll point you to the one to start with.

Ask us which one
Who sees your ad

On LinkedIn you choose the people, not just the topic

This is the main reason to use LinkedIn. You can aim at people by what they do for a living. Getting it right matters more than any ad copy.

What we can aim at

  • Job title and seniority
  • Industry and company size
  • Specific companies you name
  • Location, down to a city
  • People who already visited your site

What we watch out for

  • Too small an audience, so the ads barely show
  • Too wide an audience, so you pay for the wrong people
  • The same people seeing the same ad too often
  • Job titles that sound right but aren't the buyer

What we need from you

  • Who actually signs off on buying from you
  • Your best offer: a guide, a demo, an audit, a webinar
  • A case study or proof, if you have one
  • One person who follows up quickly
Tracking

We want to know which leads become customers

A form fill isn't a result. A customer is. Before the first ad runs, we make sure you can see the difference.

  • The LinkedIn Insight Tag (a small piece of code from LinkedIn that shows which website visitors came from your ads) installed and tested
  • Lead form answers sent to your email or sheet the moment they arrive
  • A simple sheet where you mark which leads were good, which became deals, and the deal value
  • Reports that show cost per good lead, not just cost per lead

With that in place we can see which ads, job titles and companies bring real buyers, and move budget to them. Without it, you're guessing which half of the budget is working.

How we work

The first 30 days, step by step

No mystery. Here's what happens, in order.

Audit and audience

We agree who you want to reach, what one customer is worth and what a good lead looks like.

Days 1 to 3

Tracking set up

Insight Tag installed and tested. Lead forms connected so every lead reaches you straight away.

Days 3 to 6

Offer and ads

We build the offer and two or three ad versions for each audience. You approve everything before it goes live.

Days 6 to 10

Small test, then trim

We start with a narrow test and leave it alone long enough to learn. Then we pause weak ads and give more budget to what's working.

Weeks 2 to 3

Report and decide

A plain-English report: what you spent, what leads came, how many were good and what we'll change next.

Day 30

Ready to start with a short call?

15 to 20 minutes. We'll tell you honestly if LinkedIn makes sense for you right now.

What reporting looks like

A sample monthly report

We report on good leads and what each one cost, not just clicks. This is a made-up example so you can see the layout.

Sample numbers, not a client result
MonthAd spendLeadsGood-fit leadsCost per leadCost per good-fit lead
Month 1₹1,00,000185₹5,556₹20,000
Month 2₹1,00,000249₹4,167₹11,111
Month 3₹1,00,0003014₹3,333₹7,143

What we'd say about Month 1

  • The audience was too wide. Many leads were students and job seekers.
  • "Book a demo" got few leads. A free guide got more, and better ones.
  • Leads waited two days for a reply. We set up a same-day follow-up.

What changed by Month 3

  • Job titles narrowed to the people who actually buy.
  • Budget moved to the ads and offers that brought good-fit leads.
  • Cost per good-fit lead fell by about two thirds.

How much should you spend on LinkedIn?

Enough to learn something. Indian agency guides we looked at suggest roughly ₹75,000 to ₹1.5 lakh a month for serious B2B lead generation, and say very small budgets rarely teach you anything. Send us who you sell to and we'll give you a number.

What we'll do, and what we won't promise

We will

  • Keep the ad account and the company page in your name, with you as owner
  • Show you every change we make, in a simple change log
  • Set daily budgets and tell you if spend runs ahead of plan
  • Tell you honestly if LinkedIn isn't the right place for your budget

We won't

  • Promise a number of leads or a cost per lead before seeing your audience

  • Run ads with claims you can't back up
  • Spend your budget on a test that is too small to teach anything
  • Hold your account hostage if you leave

Questions

LinkedIn Ads questions we hear most

Why are LinkedIn ads so expensive?

You're paying to reach people by their job, and many businesses compete for the same managers and decision makers. Indian agency guides put the cost per click anywhere from a couple of hundred rupees to over ₹1,000, depending on the industry. LinkedIn publishes no rate card, so it's set by the auction. Narrow targeting costs more per click but often brings better leads.

How much budget do I need?

LinkedIn's own minimum is small, but a small budget teaches you little. Indian agency guides suggest roughly ₹75,000 to ₹1.5 lakh a month for serious B2B lead generation. A very narrow test can start lower. We'll suggest a number after hearing who you sell to.

LinkedIn or Google Ads for my business?

If people already search for what you sell, Google is usually the first stop and often costs less per lead. LinkedIn is better when you need to reach specific job titles or companies who aren't searching yet. Many B2B businesses use both.

What is a Lead Gen Form?

A short form inside the ad. Name, company and job title are filled in from the person's LinkedIn profile, so they only tap to submit. It brings more leads than sending people to a website, though the leads can be less serious. We add a question or two to filter them.

What is the Insight Tag, in simple words?

A small piece of code from LinkedIn that goes on your website. It shows which visitors came from your ads and lets you show ads again to people who visited. We install and test it before any ad goes live.

Do I need a LinkedIn company page?

Yes. Ads run as your company page. If you don't have one, we can set it up properly in your name. People will click through to it, so it should look cared for.

Can I target specific companies?

Yes, you can upload a list of companies to aim at. The list has to be big enough for the ads to show, and we'll tell you if yours is too small. It works well when you know exactly who your best customers are.

My leads are poor quality. What can you do?

We narrow the job titles, change the offer, and add a qualifying question to the form. Then we compare the leads with what your sales team sees. Often the offer is too soft or the audience is too wide.

Will you guarantee leads?

No, and be careful with anyone who does. Results depend on your offer, audience, price and how fast you follow up. We promise clean tracking, honest reports and steady improvement based on your numbers.

Whose name will the ad account be in?

Yours. You own the account and the company page, and you can see everything in them. We ask for access, never your password, and you can remove us any time.

Is there a long contract?

Our plans have a 3-month minimum because LinkedIn needs time to learn. After that it's month-to-month, with no exit fee.
